Mellow at home. Ready to roam.
MELRO is a contraction of two words that describe life with a dog: mellow and roam. The calm of a dog asleep in the corner of the room, and the pull of the door opening, the boot going up, the next trip starting. Most of what we own has to serve both.
Why MELRO exists
Travelling with a dog is normal now. The gear largely hasn't caught up. A lot of it is built to the lowest possible cost, sold on the loudest possible claim, and looks like it was designed for a van rather than the car you actually drive and the home you actually live in.
We started MELRO because the ordinary, repeated moments deserve better than that. The back seat on a wet Tuesday. The boot after the woods. The bit where you are trying to get a muddy, delighted animal home without ruining the interior of your car or losing your temper.
What we focus on
Calmer travel. A dog that can settle is a dog that travels well. Most of our thinking goes into stability, surface and space — giving an animal somewhere predictable to lie down, so the journey is less of an event for everyone in the car.
Practical comfort. Fur, mud, water and hair are not edge cases, they are the job. We would rather solve those properly than add features nobody uses.
Things that earn their place. Our gear has to be useful enough to keep, durable enough to be worth keeping, and restrained enough that you are not embarrassed to leave it in the car or by the door.
How we talk about our products
We would rather say less and be right. If we haven't measured something, we don't claim it. Where a figure matters — dimensions, capacity, materials, fit — we publish it once it is verified, and not before.
One thing we will always be plain about: our travel products are comfort and protection accessories. They are not crash-tested restraints, and they are not a substitute for one. Please use an appropriate vehicle pet restraint according to its instructions.
